“Dimmable” is not a complete specification. Reliable performance depends on the exact combination of LED source, driver, dimmer type, load, and wiring.
Identify the complete system
An integrated LED fitting includes a light engine and driver; a replaceable-bulb fitting uses a separate lamp. In both cases, the control must be compatible with the electronics actually installed.
Record the full product and driver references. Similar-looking versions can use different dimming protocols.
Check the dimming method
Common systems include phase-cut control, 0–10V or 1–10V, DALI, and manufacturer-specific wireless control. They are not interchangeable simply because each product is described as dimmable.
Use the control type and dimmer models listed by the manufacturer or confirmed by the project electrician.
Respect load and circuit limits
LED loads behave differently from older incandescent lamps. Minimum and maximum load, the number of drivers on a circuit, inrush current, and cable length can all affect performance.
A qualified installer should confirm the circuit design rather than sizing it from nominal wattage alone.
Test the full range before handover
Dim from full output to the minimum and back again. Look for flicker, stepping, delayed start, audible noise, dropout, or a minimum level that remains too bright.
Save the final dimmer trim settings and component references. That record makes future replacement far easier.
