Opal glass softens the source

Opal glass conceals the lamp or LED points and spreads light across a larger glowing surface. It is useful near eye level, over dining tables, and anywhere a calm, even presence matters.

Very dense opal glass can reduce delivered light, so compare both appearance and output.

Ribbed glass adds movement

Fluting and ribbing refract the view of the source and create highlights without the full exposure of clear glass. The effect changes as you move through the room, which gives simple forms more depth.

Dust and mineral deposits are more visible in deep exterior ribs, so consider cleaning access.

Clear glass needs a considered lamp

Clear glass keeps a fitting visually light and lets surrounding architecture remain visible. It also exposes the bulb, internal hardware, and every reflection.

Use a low-glare lamp with a form that suits the fitting, and check the view from seated and standing positions.

Look at the fitting switched on

A shade can look completely different when illuminated. Request lit photography, lumen information, colour temperature, and dimming details—not only a daylight product image.

If several glass lights share a room, keep their colour temperature and source appearance consistent even when the glass textures differ.
